A country that was the backdrop for the birth of Africa’s independence in 1957, Ghana has since been ranked amongst the 10 strongest economies in Africa.

Primarily comprised of the former Gold Coast, Ghana has an abundance of natural resources from which they derive the majority of the country’s wealth.

Outside of being the birthplace for one of the Pan-African movement’s most notable leaders (Kwame Nkrumah),Ghana is home to over 80 different ethnic groups, which plays a major role in its visual vibrancy.

This culturally diverse nation also houses a great wealth of history for people of the African diaspora, being one of the center trading destinations on the Trans-Atlantic slave trade route.

During #EDGTMorocco our group visited Atlas Film Studios, just five miles outside of Ouarzazate, and covering over 322,000 square feet of desert 🐫

It was built in 1983 by a Moroccan Entrepreneur named Mohammad Belghmi, who saw a need for a permanent studio. It was popular for desert-based stories including Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Alexander the Great, Black Hawk Down, The Mummy (1999), Star Wars (1977), Gladiator (2000), and many more epic films. 🧟‍♂️🌌

Our tour included learning about the movies shot there, the movie magic they used to make everything look real, and we even got to see the set from Game of Thrones (Astapor)! #GOT
